<p>Construction of a transmission line that connects the power networks of Zambia, Tanzania and Kenya. This project initially included the section of 400kV, 1134km bidirectional Tanzanian section of the 2,800km ZTK interconnector from Kasama in Zambia to Tunduma-Mbeya-Iringa-Singida-Arusha in Tanzania terminating at Isinya in Kenya. The design capacity of the Tanzania section is 2000MW. The original concept for the ZTK Interconnector was a high voltage 330 kV transmission line going from Pensulo (Zambia) to Nairobi (Kenya) with three connection points in Tanzania (Mbeya, Singida and Arusha). At that time, Tanzania grid was operated at 220 kV.</p>

<p>The original concept of the ZTK Interconnector has been replaced, by two interconnections between two national grids: the Kenya-Tanzania Interconnection and the Zambia-Tanzania Interconnection.</p>

<p>Construction of a transmission linethat connects the power networks ofTanzania and Kenya. This projectincludes the section of 414km of400kV transmission line from Singidato Namanga via Arusha. The designcapacity is 2,000MW.</p>

<p>Construction of a transmission line that connects the power networks of Zambia, Tanzania and Kenya. This project includes the section of 670km of 400kV transmission line from Iringa to Shinyanga via Dodoma and Singida.&Acirc; The&Acirc; design capacity of this section is 2000MW.</p>

<p>The governments of Kenya and Uganda and Rwanda have committed to the development of a standard gauge railway that links the landlocked countries of Rwanda and Uganda with Mombasa port in Kenya. This project entails the section from Tororo to Gulu to Pakwach in Uganda.</p>

<p>The AXIS Project aims to facilitate the development of an African internet infrastructure through policy and regulatory reform, capacity building and technical assistance. Development of an African internet infrastructure refers to the establishment of regional internet exchange points (IXPs) and internet carriers.</p>

<p>The AXIS Project is being implemented through two phases. Phase I consists of capacity building to support the establishment of national IXPs through providing a series of two workshops for stakeholders and the Internet Service Provider Association (ISPA) on  I) best practice and benefits of IXP and II) technical assistance through workshops which will cover the technical and administrative skills needed to set up, operate, and administer an IXP.</p>

<p>Phase II focuses on supporting establishment of Regional IXP and Regional Internet Carrier through provisioning Capacity building workshops on best practice and benefits of setting up RIXP/IC and providing technical assistance.</p>

<p>The AXIS Project is a flagship project of the African Regional Action Plan on Knowledge Economy (ARAPKE) endorsed by the African Union Executive Council.</p>
