<p>The AXIS Project aims to facilitate the development of an African internet infrastructure through policy and regulatory reform, capacity building and technical assistance. Development of an African internet infrastructure refers to the establishment of regional internet exchange points (IXPs) and internet carriers.</p>

<p>The AXIS Project is being implemented through two phases. Phase I consists of capacity building to support the establishment of national IXPs through providing a series of two workshops for stakeholders and the Internet Service Provider Association (ISPA) on  I) best practice and benefits of IXP and II) technical assistance through workshops which will cover the technical and administrative skills needed to set up, operate, and administer an IXP.</p>

<p>Phase II focuses on supporting establishment of Regional IXP and Regional Internet Carrier through provisioning Capacity building workshops on best practice and benefits of setting up RIXP/IC and providing technical assistance.</p>

<p>The AXIS Project is a flagship project of the African Regional Action Plan on Knowledge Economy (ARAPKE) endorsed by the African Union Executive Council. </p>

The project involves the construction of 117 km section of single carriageway road between Mako and Dialocoto. This section is of the missing links on the Dakar-Bamako road.

<p>This project form part of the CSLG interconnector in West Africa, connecting Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea. In particular the section in Ivory Coast from the Liberia border to San Pedro in Ivory Coast.</p>

<p>Construction of Kraké/Sémé Badagry One-Stop Border Post along the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor (between Benin and Nigeria).</p>

<p>The project involves the construction of the Koukoutamba multi-purpose dam (previously known as Gourbassy dam) between Mali and Senegal.</p>

<p>A feasibility study and preliminary design for the Gourbassy Dam was completed by SNC LAVALIN International in 2012 for the OMVS Secretariat (Haut Commissariat de l"’OMVS), with funding from the World Bank under the project PGIRE 1. The main summary report is dated July 2012.</p>

<p>Since then, some (rather modest) progress has been made on further project preparation and mobilisation of finance. Activities that have been undertaken include: preparation of terms of reference for detailed design studies and tender documents. The preparation of studies to assess the cost of building the dam; and development of plans to mobilise finance, including planning for a donor round table and sending out funding requests to potential partners has been done.</p>
