The countries involved include-Ethiopia,Djibouti Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan, and Somalia. This will form a large regional transmission network which would be part of the Eastern African Power Pool. The project enables the countries in context to be supplied with green power at a reasonable price.</span><br>

First phase of the Dakar- Bamako Railway Project entailing investment in new rail infrastructure (track and rolling stock) to upgrade existing network of the Senegal section of the 1,228 km railway between Dakar and the border with Mali.
Description

<p>This project covers the Senegal portion of the Dakar-Ndjamena-Djibouti Road/ Railway project. This is a multimodal transboundary transport corridor including Senegal, Mali, Burkina-Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Sudan, Ethiopia and Djibouti. It is a combination of the Trans-African Highway 5 (Dakar to N’djamena) and 6 (N’djamena to Djibouti), a combined distance covered of 8,715 km. </p>

<p>However over time, the railway transport route between Dakar and Bamako has become degraded and and created hindrances in the international services for passenger transportation. In order to improve the competitiveness of the route, the two states financed a study in order to define the best way to finance or to participate in the funding of the Dakar- Bamako railway infrastructure upgrade.</p>

<p>The project will have the following components:</p>

<ul>
<li>Rehabilitation of the platform and reconstruction of the engineering works to 22.5 tons / axle;</li>
<li>Railway rehabilitation (main roads and service roads)</li>
<li>Implementation of a train cantonment system and a telecommunications system in line with UIC railway standards;</li>
<li>Acquisition of rolling stock and railway equipment;</li>
<li>Development and renovation of station facilities.</li>
</ul>

<p>The Dakar-Bamako Rail Project has been prioritised by the Government of Senegal as the first of three phases of the Project. It entails the rehabilitation of the existing railway network between Dakar and Bamako (1,228 km), with a total project cost of US$ 2.2 billion.</p>

<p>An underwater cable about 4,500 km long will connect the five (5) countries of the UMA by proposing two (2) landing points per country in order to also offer them the security of part of their national network.</p><p>The project serves an existing infrastructure asset of another sector, but there is less than 50% overlap in the geography serviced by the proposed project and the other sector existing asset.</p><p>The project must be carried out in two phases: The first, which lasts between 09 and 12 months, consists of: - Define the precise route and landing points in each country. Conduct an environmental impact study. Create the network operating company (in the form of a private company or public and private joint venture) - Write the project specifications. Launch the tender, analyze the offers and enter the contract with the selected supplier. The second phase, which lasts 12 months, concerns the physical realization of the network and its commercial commissioning.</p><p><br></p>

<p>Le Plan Directeur de la CEDEAO pour le DĂ©veloppement des Moyens RĂ©gionaux de Production et de Transport d’Energie Electrique 2019-2033, adoptĂ© par l"’AutoritĂ© des Chefs d’Etat et de Gouvernement de la CEDEAO en 2018, A  travers l"’Acte Additionnel Act A/SA.4/12/18, a identifiĂ© les projets prioritaires clĂ©s dont la mise en Å“uvre est indispensable A  une intĂ©gration stable des rĂ©seaux Ă©lectriques nationaux dans l"’espace CEDEAO et, faciliter des Ă©changes optimaux et de commercialisation d’énergie Ă©lectrique entre les Etats membres. Parmi les projets prioritaires inscrits dans ce Plan Directeur figure le projet de centrale HydroĂ©lectrique de Louga 1 et 2.</p><p>Les composantes du projet sont les suivantes :</p><p>LOUGA 1</p><ul><li>AmĂ©nagement de la retenue d’eau de 55m avec un rĂ©servoir d’environ 297,6 millions de m3 ;</li><li>Construction d’un barrage de 1683 m de long et 30m de haut ;</li><li>Installation de 3 groupes de type bulbe totalisant une capacitĂ© installĂ©e de 126 MW, et une production annuelle estimĂ©e A  646 GWh ;</li><li>Construction de l"’évacuateur de crue ;</li><li>Construction du canal de fuite.</li></ul>LOUGA 2 <br><ul><li>AmĂ©nagement de la retenue d’eau de 30m avec un rĂ©servoir d’environ 237 millions de m3 ;</li><li>Construction d’un barrage de 1107 m de long et 33m de haut ;</li><li>Installation de 3 groupes de type bulbe totalisant une capacitĂ© installĂ©e de 120 MW, et une production annuelle estimĂ©e A  600 GWh ;</li><li>Construction de l"’évacuateur de crue ;</li><li>Construction du canal de fuite.</li></ul>L"’évacuation de l"’énergie des projets d’amĂ©nagements hydroĂ©lectriques de Louga 1 et 2 se fera A  partir du rĂ©seau 225 kV, avec la crĂ©ation d’un poste 225 kV sur l"’une des lignes 225 kV SoubrĂ©-San Pedro.
